SUMMARY: This weekend there is a huge event highlighting the health disparities that exist in the African American community, particularly in men. African American men on average live ten years less than their counterparts and are dying due to preventable diseases. The event, organized by the National Wellness Agency, aims to raise awareness and provide free screenings for cholesterol levels, blood glucose levels, BMI, and other health metrics. The event will also include family-friendly activities, music, and vendors offering information to improve health. Registration can be done on the wellness.org website, but attendees can also just show up. Last year, over a thousand people attended and received over 200 screenings.
