SUMMARY: The Belhaven baseball team will play its upcoming season at Trustmark Park in Pearl, a professional stadium that previously hosted the Mississippi Braves. This arrangement follows multiple venue changes since 2020, most recently at Smith-Wills Stadium. Trustmark Park will accommodate both Belhaven and the Mississippi Mud Monsters, who now share the field. Belhaven, competing in Division III, has enjoyed five consecutive winning seasons despite not having a stadium on campus. The Blazers will kick off their season with a home series against Mount Saint Mary on February 14, and will practice at Trustmark Park leading up to their season.

SUMMARY: The Mississippi Senate passed the “In-Person Early Voting Act,” allowing a 15-day “no excuse” early voting period, reducing the current 45-day absentee requirement. While the Republican-authored bill received bipartisan support, Governor Tate Reeves opposes it, claiming it could increase voter fraud and labels the initiative a “Democrat priority.” Senator Jeremy England defends the legislation, noting it aligns Mississippi with 47 other states that allow early voting. Despite Reeves’ criticisms, England argues that convenience in voting is essential. The bill, having passed with a 39-12 vote, awaits consideration in the House, where England hopes for a veto-proof majority.
