Arkansas lawmakers discuss 'Pharmacy Benefit Manager' emergency rule
SUMMARY: During a recent legislative council meeting, Arkansas pharmacists presented their case for an emergency rule aimed at addressing issues with Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) and their impact on prescription drug costs. Despite prior legislation, pharmacists reported ongoing challenges, sharing emotional testimonies about the detrimental effects PBMs have had on their businesses. The newly approved emergency rule seeks to enhance accountability for PBMs, potentially lowering drug costs and improving patient access. Although concerns were raised regarding possible healthcare price increases, pharmacists emphasized that the current situation necessitates action to keep local pharmacies operational and accessible to communities.
Pharmacists met with lawmakers at the State Capitol to discuss an emergency rule that would help them deal with Pharmacy Benefit Managers and the associated costs.
SUMMARY: In Sebastian County, a man named Craig Asplund has been charged with driving while intoxicated following a random shooting incident that resulted in the death of a 7th-grade student. Authorities state there is no ongoing threat to the public. Asplund is currently out of jail on a $1,500 bond.
The incident happened on Kelley Highway in Fort Smith.
