Adams County, Natchez pass budgets for upcoming fiscal year
SUMMARY: City leaders in Natchez have passed a budget with no property tax increases and $10 million in increased spending. The funds will mostly go towards road improvements and building renovations. Additionally, almost all city employees will receive a pay raise, with an 8% increase for fire department and public work employees and a 4% raise for police officers. However, Adams County supervisors are planning a property tax increase next year to help balance the county budget. The increase will cost an additional $23.18 in value taxes yearly for a home with a $100,000 homestead price. Expense cuts and tax increases are seen as necessary for the future.
