Habitat, Elks team up to build wheelchair ramp at Petal home
SUMMARY: Habitat for Humanity of the Pine Belt and the Hattisburg Elk's Lodge teamed up to build a custom wheelchair ramp for local resident Mark Creo, who has disabilities. The Elks Lodge received a $10,000 grant from the Elks National Foundation and donated lumber from a local Lowe's store for the project. The ramp replaces an older one that was not meeting Creo's needs. The partnership between Habitat and the Elks Lodge has been ongoing for 2 years, with a focus on improving the quality of life for individuals with disabilities in the community. Interview: Registration is about to begin for the Tupelo Public School District

Skilled to Work: Tek 2 Go Advanced Manufacturing Career Camp
SUMMARY: Across the country, there's a skilled worker shortage, particularly in advanced manufacturing. To address this, EDAA Community College sponsors the Tech to Go camp, now in its 16th year, which provides high school students with hands-on experience in modern manufacturing. Originating in Northeast Mississippi, the camp has expanded statewide and nationwide. Seventeen students attended this year, creating their own aluminum name plates, metal clocks, and spray-painted plaques. The camp aims to expose students to potential career paths in the industry, which has evolved beyond its “greasy and dirty” past. Teachers also participated to gain insights into advanced manufacturing.
