The leisure and hospitality sectors, including hotels and restaurants, have been hit particularly hard. State economist Corey Miller notes that the state is still recovering, with these sectors 5% below pre-pandemic employment levels. Some businesses, like Pig and Pint, are having trouble finding workers, with many applicants not showing up for interviews or even their first day of work. To combat this, businesses are considering increasing hourly wages to attract and retain employees. Scott Jackson of Pig and Pint is paying up front $7.25 an hour before tips, while non-tipped employees make $11 to $17 an hour based on experience.

SUMMARY: The Rankin County Sheriff's Office is facing a new federal lawsuit alleging that “goon squad” Deputy Christian Dedmon and others tortured a man with a K-9. The lawsuit, filed on April 30, names Sheriff Bryan Bailey and Dedmon as defendants, among others. The incident occurred in 2021 when Bobbie Adams was allegedly bitten by a K-9 named Voodoo after being arrested for a meth sale. Adams claims he was already handcuffed and not resisting arrest when the dog attacked him, causing punctured wounds and bone dislocation. Adams, who is serving time for the sale of methamphetamines, is seeking justice through this lawsuit.

A man has filed a lawsuit claiming member of the Rankin County Sheriff's Department commanded a K9 to attack him after he was arrested.

Parents and supporters applauded as students received their white coats, symbolizing their transition from didactic to clinical training. After 29 months of education, students will graduate and become licensed physician assistants, ready to fill the void in the medical field. They can pursue various specialties, such as emergency medicine, surgery, family medicine, OBGYN, and pediatrics.
