Legislation introduced to outlaw ‘squatted’ vehicles in Mississippi
SUMMARY: Mississippi legislators are targeting “squatted” vehicles—cars altered to have higher front ends than rear ends, posing visibility issues and safety threats. Rep. Fred Shanks, referencing a North Carolina precedent, tested such a vehicle himself and is proposing a ban. Penalties for squattering include fines up to $300 and a possible one-year license suspension upon the third offense. A similar bill is introduced by Sen. Jason Barrett. Both lawmakers aim for unified legislation against squatted vehicles due to public safety concerns, highlighted by a recent tragic accident involving a young girl in Smith County.
