14 new Chronic Wasting Disease cases detected in Mississippi
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks reported 14 new cases of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in deer. The samples are tested at Mississippi State University and since 2018, 266 cases have been detected. CWD is a fatal disease and one challenge is that deer often appear healthy until the last stages. A new CWD management zone will go into effect in 2024. MDWFP is urging hunter participation in controlling the disease by submitting deer for testing, harvesting younger bucks, and discontinuing supplemental feeding. More deer can be harvested in CWD zones and supplemental feeding is forbidden in these areas. Hunters are encouraged to leave deer heads at drop-off sites.

Southern Baptist Convention: Women-led churches escape ban
SUMMARY:
The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) meeting in Indianapolis narrowly avoided banning churches with women in pastoral or leadership roles, gaining 61% approval but falling short of the required two-thirds majority. Despite this, the SBC's official doctrine still restricts pastoral roles to men. Additionally, the Convention passed a nonbinding resolution cautioning against the use of in vitro fertilization, recognizing embryos as children regardless of their location.
