Robert St. John’s ‘Five Fs’ to live by
SUMMARY: The author reflects on learning life's meaning, which crystallized with their child's birth, leading to creating the “Five Fs” personal purpose statement: Faith, Family, Friends, Food, and Fun. Prioritizing these elements invariably brings happiness. Hosting a tour for cousins and friends in Italy, the author experienced joy as all “Five Fs” were present, reinforcing their belief in their effectiveness. A memorable moment singing the Doxology in a Tuscan chapel illustrated the powerful convergence of the Five Fs. The piece concludes with a recipe for Pickled Zucchini and a call to stay informed through a newsletter subscription.

‘It’s a mess’: Rep. Lamar says cutting income tax, overall reform would benefit Mississippi
SUMMARY: Mississippi Representative Trey Lamar aims to eliminate the state income tax, building on the 2022 tax cut signed by Governor Tate Reeves, which reduced $525 million in taxes and began phasing out income tax. Lamar acknowledges the complexity, citing a potential $2 billion revenue loss but believes recent increases in state tax collections indicate tax reform viability. He advocates a gradual, 10-12 year plan to overhaul the tax code for long-term benefits, comparing Mississippi to nine income tax-free states. Governor Reeves and House Speaker Jason White, who plans a review task force, support this initiative.

While not a direct threat to south Mississippi, the region may experience heavy rainfall through Tuesday. Another system near Florida could develop as it nears the southeast U.S. coast later this week. The first storm of the season would be named Alberto.
