USM Partners with LSU and Tulane to Project the Evolution of the Coast
SUMMARY: The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) has joined a $22 million, five-year sustainability project called the Mississippi River Delta Transition Initiative (MissDelta) alongside LSU and Tulane University. The initiative addresses the land loss at the Louisiana Bird's Foot Delta and aims to predict and manage upcoming coastal changes by evaluating the implications for marine ecosystems. USM Associate Professor Kim De Mutsert leads the university's representation, with a team examining water quality and organism responses to environmental changes, specifically the impact on valuable fisheries. The project is supported by the Gulf Research Program and involves numerous Gulf institutions and scientists from HBCUs to create comprehensive coastal modeling and preservation strategies.

An Iconic Product Returns to an Iconic Venue in Pascagoula
SUMMARY: Pascagoula residents are celebrating the return of the beloved Orange Slush to Edd's, an iconic drive-in eatery. Edd's, founded in 1953, had to discontinue the Orange Slush in 2020 due to the manufacturer stopping its production. After extensive efforts, Edd's, led by Jennifer Brimm, found a suitable replacement through taste tests with familiar locals, including the author. Now, with positive feedback and preparations in place, the Orange Slush is back for summer. Edd's, a community staple known for its burgers, fries, and a nostalgic gathering spot, has restored a treasured favorite for locals and returning expatriates alike.
