7/19 – The Chief’s “Hot Temps/Low Rain Chances” Wednesday Morning Forecast
SUMMARY: Dangerous heat is expected across the area with a heat advisory in effect from 12 pm to 7 pm due to high pressure. The heat indices are predicted to range from 107 to 111 degrees. Heat advisories are expected throughout the week with almost no chance of rain until Friday. However, a cold front moving into Mississippi over the weekend may increase chances of rainfall and bring down temperatures closer to average. The front is expected to move off east on Tuesday, potentially raising the temperature again.

Mississippi is the latest state sued by tech group over age verification on websites
SUMMARY: A new Mississippi law, effective July 1, requires age verification for users of websites and digital services to protect children from explicit material, but faces a lawsuit from NetChoice, a tech industry group. NetChoice argues the law unconstitutionally restricts online speech and mandates sharing personal information, violating the First Amendment. The lawsuit was filed in federal court, challenging the law's requirement for state-mandated censorship over voluntary moderation. Mississippi's Attorney General is named in the suit. Similar laws have been contested by NetChoice in Arkansas, California, Ohio, and Utah, with varying degrees of success in blocking such measures.

Dwindling number of D-Day veterans mark anniversary with plea to recall WWII lessons in today’s wars
SUMMARY: World War II veterans returned to Omaha Beach, France, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day, which saw a young generation wade through gunfire to liberate Nazi-occupied France. The ceremony, shadowed by the ongoing war in Ukraine, honored the dead and the living who defended democracy. French President Emmanuel Macron awarded the Legion of Honor to several veterans, and U.S. President Joe Biden emphasized the importance of standing against dictatorships. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's presence highlighted current parallels to WWII sacrifices. As veterans shared memories, the focus remained on remembering the sacrifices made for freedom.

Gulfport Little Theatre planning to restore after being ransacked by thieves
SUMMARY: In 2020, Gulfport Little Theatre disbanded due to the pandemic, expecting a short hiatus. However, a two-week closure extended to two years, leading to the theatre's prolonged shutdown. Four years later, former members are striving to restore it, facing severe challenges such as vandalism and theft, including damage to electrical wiring and plumbing. The building has also suffered significant disrepair. Former board member Bill Young stresses the need for community support, especially for a commercial property appraisal, to quantify the restoration costs. The theatre, a community entertainment hub for over seventy years, is now seeking the community's help to rejuvenate.
