$1.55 billion Mega Millions jackpot is the 3rd largest in US history

SUMMARY: Lottery players will have a chance to win the third-largest jackpot in U.S. history with a massive Mega Millions prize tonight. The estimated prize has been growing for months and is currently at $1.55 billion. The last time someone won the top prize was in April. The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302.6 million. The payout would be either a lump sum of approximately $757.2 million or an annuity paid out over 30 years. The money would be subject to federal taxes and potentially state taxes as well. Mega Millions is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
