SUMMARY: A 2007 cold case murder in Fulton County was solved with the arrest of Angel Thompson, charged with malice murder in the death of 24-year-old Nicole Alston. Alston’s body was found in a burning bag with missing head, hands, and feet. The couple lived together at Genesis Gardens Apartments in Palmetto, where the murder occurred. Thompson killed Alston, concealed the crime, and assumed her identity, collecting $121,000 in social security benefits over eight years. Investigators suspect trafficking and urge the public to provide information on other potential victims. Alston’s mother expressed relief after 15 years of seeking justice.

Fulton County officials say they have made an arrest in what they are calling a “gruesome” cold case murder of a woman whose body was discovered in a burning bag on the side of a Troup County road.

SUMMARY: At 5:00 AM, Tropical Storm Erin was near 16.5°N, 41.9°W, moving west at 20 mph and expected to continue west-northwest into the weekend, likely passing near or just north of the northern Leeward Islands. Erin’s maximum sustained winds are 45 mph, with gradual strengthening forecast, possibly becoming a hurricane by late Thursday or early Friday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend 60 miles from the center, with a central pressure of 1004 mb. A tropical wave in the northwestern Caribbean shows low development chance (10-20%) as it moves over the Yucatan Peninsula. A low-pressure area near Nova Scotia also has a low (10%) chance of tropical development.
