SUMMARY: On June 4, 2025, Madison’s police and fire departments held the first-ever “Boots and Badges” Summer Blood Drive, a friendly competition to raise awareness and donations for LifeSouth Blood Center. Though usually working as a team to save lives at emergency scenes, the two departments competed to collect blood donations essential for surgeries, injuries, and illnesses. Both emphasize the urgent, daily need for blood supply, which directly supports patients upon hospital arrival. They urged the community to donate, highlighting that the ultimate winner is the life saved—a patient in critical need. This initiative strengthens Madison’s emergency response and healthcare system.

On any given day, the Madison Police Department and Madison Fire Department may work together at a house fire, wreck or any number of things. In those moments, they’re working on the same team. Wednesday, however, they competed against one another.
