SUMMARY: The Picayune Police Department, led by Chief Joe Quave, is intensifying investigations into minor crimes to uncover drug-related offenses, significantly reducing drug presence in the community. By linking incidents like shoplifting to drug trades, they have executed effective search warrants and investigations. In 2024, there were 182 drug arrests and 58 equipment violations; by mid-2025, these dropped to 101 arrests and 29 violations. Overdoses also declined from 34 in 2023 to 13 so far in 2025. Quave credits the dedication of officers and collaboration with local and state agencies, including the Fentanyl Strike Force, for these improvements in combating drug trafficking and overdoses.

Tested in Narragansett Bay, it targets commercial ferry routes in Florida, Hawaii, Japan, and the Persian Gulf, and military use for island-hopping in the Pacific. Backed by investors like Mark Cuban, Regent seeks to revive flying boats with safer, quieter, emission-free travel. The U.S. Coast Guard classifies it as a ship, not an aircraft.

SUMMARY: Kilauea volcano in Hawaii is expected to erupt lava again soon, marking its 31st eruption since December. Molten rock shoots high from two vents, illuminating the night sky. Scientists explain magma inflates a lower chamber, pushing lava through cracks. This ongoing eruption resembles past events in 1959, 1969, and 1983. While the eruption’s duration is uncertain, sensors help predict lava emergence. Locals and visitors witness the spectacle, with many watching livestreams. For Native Hawaiians, the eruption honors Pele, the volcano goddess, inspiring cultural stories and chants. Visitors are urged to stay safe on trails due to hazards like unstable cliffs and volcanic gases.
