www.youtube.com – FOX 5 Atlanta – 2025-05-19 21:20:58

SUMMARY: In Jasper’s Bentree community, a mother black bear was shot and killed by a resident, leaving her two cubs orphaned. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is investigating and trying to locate the cubs, who were last seen Sunday. Black bear educator Gerald Hajj stresses that shooting bears is unnecessary and dangerous, advising residents to use noise-making devices like whistles, air horns, or banging pots to scare bears away safely. Hajj warns that human intervention often harms wildlife and suggests the cubs might be adopted by another female bear, though that’s unlikely in a populated area. Authorities may capture the cubs if found, and the shooter faces possible charges.
