SUMMARY: Carol broke her own American Indoor long jump record twice at the Dallas Times Invitational, setting a new mark of 22 feet 2¼ inches, becoming the first American woman to jump past 22 feet indoors. Her goal was to make the all-time indoor world list, which she achieved. While her brother Carl finished second in the 60-yard dash, Carol stole the spotlight. Despite their competitive achievements, the siblings, both children of track coaches, experience no jealousy. Carol also competed for the first time wearing glasses to correct a depth-of-field issue, a change she plans to continue.
