SUMMARY: The Mississippi State Department of Health urges residents to prioritize summer safety amid extreme heat risks. To prevent heat stroke, stay hydrated with water and avoid alcohol and caffeine. Protect against mosquito-borne illnesses by using repellents, wearing covering clothing, and eliminating standing water. Use SPF-15+ sunscreen with UVA/UVB protection, wear protective clothing, and seek shade during peak sun hours to reduce skin cancer risk. Clinic directors highlight hiring challenges, particularly in rural towns where attracting therapists willing to relocate is difficult. The initiative hopes to increase local therapists, reducing wait times and improving care access.
