Ukrainian President Zelenskyy sidelined as NATO leaders meet to agree defense spending boost
SUMMARY: NATO leaders met in The Hague to boost defense spending amid Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy attended the summit venue but was not in the main meeting, instead holding bilateral talks, including with U.S. President Donald Trump. The conflict has devastated Ukrainian towns, with recent major Russian drone attacks on Kyiv. The International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin over alleged war crimes. Zelenskyy secured new military aid commitments from the Netherlands and the U.K., and planned to travel to France to support creating an international tribunal to prosecute Russia’s aggression.
