SUMMARY: Between 2017 and 2022, Uber received 400,181 reports of sexual assault or misconduct in the U.S., nearly one every eight minutes—far exceeding previously disclosed figures. Most reports involved less serious behavior, but serious assaults were also recorded. Internal documents revealed Uber prioritized growth and legal risk management over safety, treating drivers as independent contractors to limit oversight. Uber has implemented safety features and training, with some reductions in incidents, but critics argue the company tolerated risk. Lyft reported fewer assaults but acknowledged ongoing challenges. A government report highlighted widespread underreporting of sexual violence in transportation and the lack of centralized tracking.

Trump names George Strait, Sylvester Stallone and Kiss for Kennedy Center Honors
SUMMARY: President Donald Trump, now chairman of the Kennedy Center, announced nominees for the Kennedy Center Honors, including George Strait, Sylvester Stallone, Gloria Gaynor, Kiss, and Michael Crawford. Trump pledged a full renovation of the center, aiming to restore it as a premier cultural venue for America’s 250th anniversary. After avoiding the event during his first term due to artist protests, Trump has taken control by replacing the board with loyalists and involving himself heavily in honoree selection, rejecting those he deemed “too woke.” His leadership has sparked criticism, including the withdrawal of “Hamilton” producers, amid controversies over programming and proposed renaming efforts.

Too much screen time can reshape your eyes and make you nearsighted, experts say
SUMMARY: Experts warn that excessive screen time can reshape eyes and increase nearsightedness in children. Today, over one-third of kids worldwide are nearsighted, up from one in four a generation ago. UT physician Dr. Stephanie Handel explains that constant near work, like using phones or devices, causes the eye to elongate, worsening nearsightedness. Lamar High students report spending several hours daily on screens, with the average child using screens 7.5 hours a day. To reduce digital eye strain, experts recommend the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. Additionally, spending at least two hours outdoors daily can help lower nearsightedness risk.
There are some simple ways to help prevent vision problems, according to an optometrist with UT Physicians.
