U.S. small manufacturers hope to benefit from tariffs, but some worry about uncertainty
SUMMARY: Drew Greenblatt, president of Marlin Steel Wire Products, supports the Trump administration’s tariffs aimed at rebalancing trade in favor of U.S. manufacturers. He believes overseas competitors have unfair advantages, creating an uneven playing field for American workers. The administration seeks to revitalize U.S. manufacturing, which has declined by 35% since 1979, by imposing tariffs to encourage local production. However, some small manufacturers, like Corry Blanc and Michael Lyons, express concerns about the resulting economic uncertainty and potential recession. In contrast, Bayard Winthrop of American Giant remains hopeful that tariffs will lead to a resurgence of American-made products.

Rescue efforts are concentrated along the Guadalupe River, with helicopters active daily. Volunteers and residents are aiding cleanup, but the area still faces potential flooding, heightening the urgency of ongoing search missions.

South Florida will see scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms
SUMMARY: South Florida will experience scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms today, with mostly cloudy skies and a quiet morning commute. After record rainfall over the holiday weekend, including nearly two inches in Miami, the radar is currently clear. Tropical Depression Chantal, the first U.S. landfalling tropical system this year, is dissipating over Virginia and poses mainly rain risks there. The afternoon will see a shift to a southeasterly breeze, bringing typical summer showers and storms, especially in Broward and inland areas, with activity moving into Miami-Dade and the Everglades by evening. Temperatures will climb to the upper 80s and low 90s, feeling hotter, with highs near 100°F in some inland locations. Overnight and tomorrow morning will be relatively quiet with a low rip current risk and a very high UV index.
NEXT Weather meteorologist Shane Hinton says most of the activity will be over Broward, while Miami-Dade and Monroe counties will be relatively quiet.

Daredevils run with charging bulls at Pamplona’s famous San Fermín festival
SUMMARY: Thousands of runners participated in the opening bull run of the San Fermín festival in Pamplona, Spain. The event features up to 4,000 runners dashing ahead of bulls along an 846-meter cobblestone course. Most runners wear traditional white clothing with red sashes. While injuries from falls and pileups are common, serious gorings are less frequent. The festival includes daily bull runs followed by bullfights in the afternoon. Animal rights activists protested the event, criticizing bullfighting. The festival gained international fame through Ernest Hemingway’s novel “The Sun Also Rises.” The celebration continues with eating, drinking, and cultural events.
