U.S. Sen. Padilla blasts Trump ‘path toward fascism’ in LA immigration crackdown
SUMMARY: U.S. Sen. Alex Padilla of California was forcibly removed and handcuffed at a press conference after attempting to question DHS Secretary Kristi Noem about military deployments in Los Angeles. Padilla condemned President Trump’s use of troops to target immigrants and suppress protests, calling it authoritarian. The incident, caught on video, has drawn criticism and support across party lines. Padilla emotionally recounted being detained and raised concerns over democratic erosion. DHS claimed agents didn’t recognize him, despite video evidence. House Speaker Mike Johnson called for censure, while Senate Democrats defended Padilla’s actions and warned of growing threats to democratic norms.

Humanity at risk? New warning from ‘godfather of AI’
SUMMARY: AI pioneer Geoffrey Hinton, often called the “Godfather of AI,” warns that artificial intelligence could pose a 10–20% chance of wiping out humanity. In a recent interview, he said superintelligent machines may eventually see humans as obsolete, comparing the shift in dominance to humans and chickens. Hinton raised concerns over current AI threats, including cyberattacks, bioengineered viruses, autonomous weapons, and job displacement. He predicts AI will soon outperform people in most tasks but says jobs requiring physical skill, like plumbing, may remain safe longer. Despite the dangers, Hinton believes AI has great potential in healthcare, education, and data-driven industries.
Geoffrey Hinton says super-intelligent machines could one day decide that humans are no longer needed.

‘Like Damar Hamlin’: Youth soccer coach’s life saved by spectators’ rapid response
SUMMARY: During a youth soccer game in upstate New York, Southern Tier coach Andrew Pillblatt collapsed unexpectedly. Wilson High School coach Paul Herman immediately ran to help, joined by parents including a nurse who began CPR. School secretary Claire Simpson retrieved an AED, and paramedics soon transported Pillblatt to the hospital, where he recovered after a week. With no prior health issues, doctors remain puzzled about the cause. Pillblatt credits bystanders’ quick action for saving his life and now urges others to get CPR and AED certified. Coach Herman plans to lead his team in CPR training as a bonding activity.
In a community response that echoed the NFL’s Damar Hamlin incident, spectators at a youth soccer match in Wilson, New York, saved a visiting coach’s life through immediate CPR and rapid access to an automated external defibrillator (AED) earlier this month.
