House sends GOP’s ‘big, beautiful bill’ to Trump’s desk in major win for Republicans

Published

on

www.wjbf.com – Emily Brooks – 2025-07-03 13:33:00

SUMMARY: House Republicans passed a sweeping bill embodying President Trump’s key domestic policies, including tax cuts, immigration enforcement, increased energy production, Medicaid cuts, and a $5 trillion debt ceiling hike. The 218-214 vote followed intense negotiations, with only two Republicans and all Democrats opposing. Speaker Mike Johnson hailed it as a cornerstone of America’s “new golden age.” The bill extends 2017 tax cuts, boosts border security and defense spending, and reduces green energy incentives. Despite Medicaid cuts, it will add $3.3 trillion to the deficit over ten years. Democrats fiercely opposed it, with Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries delivering an 8-hour filibuster-like speech to delay the vote. Trump’s lobbying helped secure GOP unity, marking a major legislative victory early in his second term.

www.youtube.com – FOX 5 Atlanta – 2025-07-03 07:26:35

SUMMARY: The hot dog became a Fourth of July staple largely due to German immigrants who brought sausages in the 1870s. The Chicago World’s Fair of 1893 popularized the “dachshund sausage,” which evolved into the modern hot dog. The Fourth of July only became a national holiday after the Civil War, in 1870, and hot dogs quickly became fan favorites at celebrations. German influence also shaped other staples, like potato salad. Traditional desserts like apple pie remain popular, with red, white, and blue desserts emerging in the 1950s. Today, Americans consume an estimated 150 million hot dogs on Independence Day.

Certain foods are synonymous with certain holidays. Americans will eat approximately 150 million hot dogs during this year’s 4th of July weekend. FOX News spoke to a historian about how certain foods became 4th of July staples.
