SUMMARY: The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), along with Warren RECC and Bowling Green Municipal Utilities, urges residents to reduce non-essential electricity use amid extreme heat to maintain reliable power. Butch Massey of Warren RECC emphasized that small changes can greatly help meet high energy demand. Recommended actions include raising thermostats by one degree, delaying use of heat-producing appliances during peak times, lowering water heater temperatures to 120°F, washing clothes in cold water, and turning off unused lights and electronics. Residents are also reminded to check on neighbors, pets, and livestock during the heat. Power outages can be reported via phone, app, or text.

SUMMARY: Officials in Louisville are taking steps to protect outdoor workers as extreme heat rises. Precautions include starting work earlier to avoid peak heat, shortening workdays, hydrating frequently, and taking cooling breaks. Firefighters face extra challenges as heat drains their oxygen tanks faster, requiring more backups. Parks and Recreation employees follow similar protocols. Workers are encouraged to watch for heat illness signs like fatigue, dizziness, and nausea and to look out for one another. An OSHA heat index app, available in English and Spanish, helps users monitor heat risk levels and provides first aid advice to stay safe.
