Tulane defeats Southern Miss in the Battle for the Bell
SUMMARY: Southern Miss had an opportunity to get back in the win column against a tough opponent, but ultimately lost to Lane. Kai Horton started again in place of the injured Michael Pratt, and he delivered a pass to Lawrence Keys for a big gain. Horton later scored a touchdown on a sneak. The first half was a defensive battle, with both teams struggling to move the ball. Southern Miss honored their Sunbelt Champions during the game, but couldn’t get the win. Head coach Will Hall expressed disappointment with their performance and believes they are a top 25 team. Southern Miss will start conference play next week against Arkansas State.

U.S. Supreme Court denies petition from Mississippi death row inmate, execution set for Wednesday
SUMMARY: The U.S. Supreme Court has denied a petition filed by Mississippi death row inmate Richard Gerald Jordan, declining to review the lower court’s decision in his case. Jordan had requested an emergency stay of execution, challenging the state’s lethal injection protocol. His attorneys also appealed to the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, which similarly denied a request to block the execution. With no further legal obstacles, Richard Gerald Jordan’s execution is scheduled for Wednesday. The Supreme Court did not provide a reason for its decision to deny the petition, effectively allowing the state’s plans to proceed.
Richard Gerald Jordan was sentenced to death for the kidnapping and killing of Edwina Marter in 1976 in Harrison County.
