SUMMARY: The trial of musician Zachary Hughes, accused of murdering Christina Parcell in October 2021, reached its fifth day as the state rested its case. Over 30 witnesses testified, including a sergeant and a medical examiner who noted 35 stab wounds consistent with a knife but could not identify the murder weapon. DNA evidence linked Hughes to the crime scene, found on Parcell’s bike and under her fingernails. The defense challenged the DNA evidence’s admissibility and filed for a mistrial, both of which were denied. The trial resumes Tuesday, with the defense set to present its case.
