Trump draws criticism with AI image of himself as the pope ahead of the papal conclave
SUMMARY: President Donald Trump posted an AI-generated image of himself dressed as pope amid the mourning of Pope Francis and ahead of the conclave to elect his successor. The image drew criticism from New York Catholic bishops and Italians, seen as disrespectful during the Vatican’s official mourning period. Critics included Italian former Premier Matteo Renzi and the New York State Catholic Conference, who condemned Trump’s act as mockery. The White House defended Trump, citing his respect for Catholics. Trump also expressed interest in becoming pope and endorsed Cardinal Timothy Dolan, but such outside influence contradicts conclave secrecy traditions. The episode highlights tensions between Trump, the Catholic Church, and ongoing sociopolitical issues.

SUMMARY: House Republicans narrowly passed President Donald Trump’s $4.5 trillion tax breaks and spending cuts bill, dubbed the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” with a 218-214 vote after an 8.5-hour speech by Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries opposing it. The legislation includes tax cuts, spending reductions, Medicaid cuts, rollback of solar energy credits, and increased defense and deportation funding. Supporters like Reps. Nancy Mace and Joe Wilson praised it as a promise kept and a new era of prosperity. Critics, including Rep. James Clyburn, condemned it as favoring the wealthy while harming healthcare and increasing debt. Trump is expected to sign it into law soon.

RCSD: Former county council member arrested
SUMMARY: Former Richland County Council member Anthony “Tony” Mizzell was arrested on June 29 after deputies observed his speeding Cadillac and initiated a traffic stop. Mizzell fled, claiming his daughter had a medical emergency, but deputies found no medical issues at the home he stopped at. The homeowner presented text messages and recordings of Mizzell threatening her. Two weapons were found in his vehicle. Mizzell became combative and threatened a deputy before being checked by EMS. Charged with failure to stop, reckless driving, third-degree domestic violence, and threatening a public official, he was later released on surety bonds.

‘It bottlenecks every day’: Hwy. 17 construction frustrates Myrtle Beach drivers
SUMMARY: Drivers in Myrtle Beach are frustrated with ongoing construction on the U.S. 17 bypass, causing daily traffic bottlenecks and long backups, especially during rush hour. The project, which began in July 2022, aims to widen the highway from two to three lanes over a mile and a half stretch but has dragged on for nearly three years. Locals report painful detours, lane reductions, and slowed speed limits without visible progress, leading many to avoid the area entirely. Businesses near the construction, like Joe’s Airport Diner, are also affected. Officials have yet to provide an updated timeline.
Drivers navigating the Highway 17 Bypass near Myrtle Beach Airport (MYR) are expressing frustration over ongoing road construction that has persisted for years.
Many locals said they avoid the area unless absolutely necessary due to the traffic congestion:
