Trump defends US strikes on Iran as intel assessment stirs debate
SUMMARY: At a NATO summit in The Hague on June 25, 2025, President Donald Trump claimed U.S. strikes delivered a devastating blow to Iran’s nuclear program, despite a preliminary intelligence report suggesting only a minor setback. The administration and Israeli officials insisted the attacks set Iran back by years, targeting facilities including the underground Fordo enrichment site. Defense and State officials dismissed the leaked assessment as low-confidence and accused leakers of betrayal. Iran acknowledged significant damage but maintains its nuclear aims are peaceful. The episode intensified Trump’s distrust of intelligence leaks and raised questions about Iran’s ability to safeguard nuclear materials before the strikes.

Trump says whether he’ll commit to NATO mutual defense guarantee ‘Depends on your definition’
SUMMARY: President Donald Trump cast doubt on the U.S. commitment to NATO’s mutual defense guarantees ahead of the 2025 summit in The Hague, stating “depends on your definition” regarding Article 5. While affirming friendship and commitment to saving lives, he avoided detailed clarification. His unpredictable stance contrasts with NATO’s traditional unity amid ongoing Middle East tensions, including U.S. strikes in Iran and ceasefire volatility. Trump emphasized increased defense spending by NATO members, advocating for a 4-5% GDP target. European allies remain wary of U.S. commitment under Trump, fearing possible withdrawal or reduced engagement, despite official reassurances of support.
