Trump administration offers $1,000 for self-deportation
SUMMARY: The Trump administration’s Department of Homeland Security is launching a new program offering illegal immigrants $1,000 and airfare to self-deport. Officials claim this approach is safer and about 70% cheaper than traditional deportation methods involving arrest and detention. The program allows participants to return voluntarily to their home countries without arrest during the process. DHS argues this is a more humane and cost-effective way to reduce illegal immigration. This initiative contrasts with earlier controversial deportation flights involving accused migrant gang members, which faced legal challenges and criticism. At least one person has already used the new self-deportation program.
The Department of Homeland Security will cover the cost of commercial flights and provide a $1,000 stipend to undocumented immigrants who voluntarily leave the United States — a move the agency says could save thousands of dollars per case.

US judge says China’s Huawei Technologies must face criminal case for racketeering and other charges
SUMMARY: A U.S. judge ruled that Huawei Technologies must face criminal charges, rejecting the company’s request to dismiss allegations in a 16-count indictment. Huawei is accused of stealing U.S. trade secrets, installing surveillance equipment in Iran, violating U.S. sanctions by doing business in North Korea, and fraud involving a Hong Kong shell company. CFO Meng Wanzhou was previously arrested in Canada but released in a prisoner swap. China accuses the U.S. of economic bullying and misuse of national security claims. Huawei has struggled under U.S. sanctions, focusing on domestic markets and developing its own technology to adapt.

Eye on your money: Here's how to host your July 4th party for $100
SUMMARY: A July 4th party for ten people is estimated to cost about $130, up 2% from last year. CBS News Miami’s Lisa Petrillo partnered with Publix at Brier Bay to see if it could be done for $100 or less. Utilizing weekly sales, buy-one-get-one deals, and budget-friendly options like chicken, in-season produce, and bringing your own beverages, Lisa shopped smartly. She bought gourmet burgers, sausages, sides like macaroni and potato salad, fresh corn, chips, festive flowers, cupcakes, and apple pie, all under $100, saving nearly $30. Experts recommend comparison shopping, preparing produce yourself, and using larger beverage containers for further savings.
Planning a festive Fourth of July celebration on a budget is possible, according to a new challenge taken on by CBS News Miami and Publix Super Markets.

‘Alligator Alcatraz’ Opens in Florida amid protests, praise, and legal threats
SUMMARY: Florida opened a controversial migrant detention center, dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz,” at a near-defunct Everglades airport, sparking protests, legal challenges, and political fanfare. The facility, praised by Trump and DeSantis, can hold 3,000 detainees with extensive security and amenities. Officials emphasize voluntary departure options for migrants, with same-day deportation flights. Environmental groups oppose the center, citing bypassed impact studies, while immigration lawyers raise due process concerns. Costing over $450 million, Florida currently funds the project, expecting federal reimbursement. Public opinion is divided, with recent polls showing declining immigration approval for Trump. The first migrants are set to arrive soon, barring legal blocks.
