Trial begins for man charged with murder of fatal shooting at Florida dog park
SUMMARY: Jared Dean Bradford, who fatally shot Walt Lay at a Tampa dog park, appeared in court asserting self-defense. After nine months in jail, Bradford claimed Lay attacked him with a metal coffee mug. Prosecutors challenged his narrative, highlighting autopsy findings contradicting Bradford’s account. The defense argued there was a struggle and presented evidence of Lay’s prior threats. A selfie video showed Lay expressing fear of Bradford. Texts from Lay suggested he intended to confront Bradford. Under cross-examination, Bradford admitted feeling helpless during the altercation. The judge will determine the validity of Bradford’s “stand your ground” claim next Thursday.
Stand-your-ground hearing for Gerald Declan Radford, who was charged in March with second-degree murder for the fatal shooting of Walt Lay at West Dog Park.

Florida family claims nursing home kept billing for empty room after mom died
SUMMARY: A Florida family faced ongoing charges from Centre Towers nursing home after their mother, Jackie, died. Despite her passing and belongings being cleared from her memory care room, the facility billed the family nearly $1,000, citing a 30-day notice policy. Family member Renee Schulte expressed frustration over being charged for an empty room, with little communication or response from the nursing home director. Elder law attorney Michael Angelo Mortal Airo advised families to carefully review contracts and use power of attorney to avoid liability. Centre Towers eventually refunded the fees, attributing the issue to a communication error.
A Hillsborough County family said a nursing home continued to bill for a room at the facility after their mom died.
