SUMMARY: During Hurricane Katrina in 2005, I was working at Keesler Air Force Base and engaged to be married. Unprepared for the storm’s severity, my fiancée and I evacuated to Panama City, Florida, anxiously watching the devastation unfold. Returning home, we found our new house mostly spared, but the community suffered widespread flooding. I documented the disaster for the Air Force, capturing haunting scenes of destruction and resilience. Despite setbacks, we married shortly after the storm in a surviving venue.
