SUMMARY: Teachers in Putnam County are preparing for the new school year as students return Monday. At Cookeville High School, a Spanish teacher focuses not just on language skills but on helping students connect, be curious, and support others. Another teacher views her classroom as a place to teach responsibility, respect, and resilience. Both educators emphasize the importance of life skills, emotional well-being, and seeing students grow into thoughtful adults. They find fulfillment in hearing from former students who succeed in college and careers. Success, they say, goes beyond test scores to the development of the whole person.
