Tennessee State Veterans Homes more than $1M in the red | Tennessee
SUMMARY: The Tennessee State Veterans’ Homes Board is facing a $1.1 million shortfall in the first four months of the fiscal year, primarily due to reliance on agency nurses. Efforts to eliminate this dependency could save 33% per dollar spent on agency staff. Staffing issues have also led to citations from the Department of Veteran Affairs, especially at the Murfreesboro facility, which received low ratings. Competition for workers from companies like Amazon has strained resources. The board plans to improve occupancy rates to break even financially. A new veterans’ home in Arlington is under construction, financed by federal and state funds.
