Debate over firefighter pay heats up in Clarksville
SUMMARY: In Clarksville, debate intensifies over firefighter pay amid city growth and increasing safety demands. Firefighters start at under $44,000, police just under $50,000, prompting calls for a pay study to address retention and attraction of first responders. The Public Safety Committee passed a resolution for a pay study, but the city’s finance committee delayed it, citing budget constraints and the cost—around $271,726, a quarter of the annual operating budget. Some officials argue pay details from other cities are already known, making the study unnecessary. Others stress a thorough comparison of benefits and job requirements is needed. A 2.5% wage increase recently took effect, but concerns remain about pay adequacy. Discussions continue at the city council on September 4.
As Clarksville continues to grow, so does the need to keep its people safe.

State investigators believe ‘Walking Tall’ sheriff murdered his wife 58 years ago
SUMMARY: State investigators have concluded that legendary McNary County Sheriff Buford Pusser likely murdered his wife, Pauline, 58 years ago. Previously portrayed as a hero in the 1973 film “Walking Tall,” Pusser claimed his wife was killed in an ambush meant for him. However, modern forensic analysis and evidence reviewed by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) and the district attorney suggest Pusser staged the attack. If alive today, he would face indictment for domestic violence and murder. The TBI has released the full case file publicly to provide closure to Pauline’s family and reveal the truth behind the decades-old cold case.
More than 50 years after the murder of a sheriff’s wife, authorities announced a major development in the case. READ MORE: https://www.fox13memphis.com/news/state-investigators-believe-walking-tall-sheriff-murdered-his-wife-58-years-ago/article_653d6a02-beec-4358-9682-b4a4581310f7.html
