The case revolves around Walters’ comments made on July 31, where he described Miller as a “liar” and an “embarrassment” in response to inquiries about Miller’s request for Title I funding estimates. Walters’ defense cites immunity under the Oklahoma Government Tort Claims Act, asserting that his statements were made while performing his official duties. SUMMARY: Lieutenant Jennifer Haddock of the Edmond Police Department shot her brother, Sean, in August 2023, and is seeking immunity from prosecution under Oklahoma’s Stand Your Ground law. During a 911 call, she reported the incident, stating, “I just shot my brother.” The court documents indicate Sean was under the influence of meth and fentanyl, posing a dangerous threat while blocking her exit in their mother’s apartment. Haddock’s attorney argues she acted in self-defense after attempting de-escalation and faced imminent danger. The law allows individuals to use deadly force if they reasonably believe it’s necessary to prevent significant harm.
