Stay safe when the temperatures rise
SUMMARY: A heatwave is expected in Savannah, bringing concerns about heat-related illnesses. Dr. Jay Goldstein of Memorial Health warns that heat exhaustion is common, but heat stroke is far more dangerous and potentially fatal if untreated. Early heatwaves pose greater risk as people are not acclimated and overexert themselves unknowingly. To stay safe, he advises avoiding alcohol and caffeine, which dehydrate the body, and recommends balanced electrolyte intake by mixing Gatorade with water. Additionally, protecting skin with sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher is crucial to prevent sunburn, heat illness, and long-term damage like cancer during outdoor activities.

SCCPSS Sgt files lawsuit for retaliatory actions from school board after reporting student sexual abuse
SUMMARY: SCCPSS Sgt. Carl Quarterman filed a lawsuit alleging corruption and retaliation after reporting sexual abuse claims involving a school resource officer and two high school girls. Quarterman says the abuse was committed by a lieutenant who was allowed to work with students despite the allegations. He claims Chief Terry Enoch delayed the investigation, intimidated witnesses, and failed to suspend the accused officer. After reporting the incident to Superintendent Denise Watts, Quarterman faced retaliation, including demotion and pay cuts. The lawsuit also accuses Enoch of mishandling ethics complaints. The district declined further comment due to pending litigation.

Woman demands answers after dog died during grooming appointment
SUMMARY: A metro Atlanta woman is demanding answers after her French bulldog, Honcho, died during a grooming appointment. Deanna Mann, who had left explicit instructions for the groomer to ensure Honcho stayed hydrated, was devastated to learn hours later that her dog had passed. She arrived at the groomer’s around 12:30 p.m. to find Honcho already dead, reportedly from a heatstroke. Despite her efforts to revive him, it was too late. Mann hopes Honcho’s story will raise awareness about the risks of heat-related issues in certain dog breeds. The grooming business has not provided a detailed explanation, only offering a refund.

Honcho had an appointment with a groomer in Jonesboro. The owner return and found her dog dead.
