Sunday ends dry and hazy before South Florida’s work week begins with moisture and possibly showers
SUMMARY: Sunday in South Florida ended dry and hazy with temperatures in the mid to low 80s overnight, feeling warmer in some spots. A change is coming as moisture returns and rain chances increase starting Monday morning, with showers developing along the east coast and pushing inland by afternoon. Tuesday will have higher rain chances around 30%, with lingering showers and storms into midweek. Cooler air from storms may bring brief relief from the heat, though temperatures will remain near 90°F or above for the week. Tropical waves exist but are not expected to develop locally in the next seven days.

Israeli strikes kill at least 34 people in Gaza, officials say, as some aid restrictions are eased
SUMMARY: Israeli strikes killed at least 34 Palestinians in Gaza on Monday, despite Israel’s announcement of daily 10-hour pauses in military operations to facilitate humanitarian aid delivery amid a worsening crisis. Aid agencies welcomed the new measures, including airdrops, but said they were insufficient to address growing hunger and malnutrition, with images of emaciated children sparking international outrage. Some strikes targeted civilians near aid sites and residential areas, killing women and children. Since October 7, Hamas’s attack killed 1,200 Israelis, with retaliatory Israeli offensives killing over 59,800 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. Most Gazans now rely on aid to survive.

Israel again intercepts Gaza-bound ship carrying activists and humanitarian aid
SUMMARY: The Israeli military intercepted the Gaza-bound aid ship Handala, detaining 21 international activists and journalists and seizing all cargo, including baby formula, food, and medicine. The Freedom Flotilla Coalition said the interception occurred about 40 nautical miles from Gaza in international waters, with communications cut just before midnight Saturday. The coalition emphasized the cargo was civilian and intended to help a population facing starvation under Israel’s blockade. Activists from 10 countries, including seven U.S. citizens, were aboard. The raid drew criticism from human rights groups, which called it a violation of international law. Israel provided no immediate comment.
