Stars lose homes in Los Angeles area fires and Jamie Lee Curtis pledges $1M to relief effort
SUMMARY: Fires around Los Angeles have devastated homes, including those of celebrities like Billy Crystal, Jeff Bridges, and Jhené Aiko. Many have shared their heartbreak over lost properties and cherished memories. As the fires led to the postponement of several awards ceremonies and the delay of Oscar nominations, over 180,000 residents are under evacuation orders. Jamie Lee Curtis responded by pledging $1 million for fire relief, echoed by the Recording Academy for affected musicians. Historic sites, including the ranch of Will Rogers, have been destroyed, intensifying concerns over both personal and cultural losses during this crisis.

Savannah Council to weigh horse carriage heat limits
SUMMARY: The Savannah City Council is debating new rules to lower the maximum temperature for operating horse-drawn carriages to improve animal welfare. Currently, carriages run until a 110-degree heat index or 95-degree actual temperature. Proposed changes include lowering limits by 10 degrees and using more accurate heat measurements, such as a wet bulb calculator and monitoring horses’ internal temperatures. Supporters cite science-backed animal safety, while carriage operators warn lower limits could threaten their business, especially during warmer months. The industry brings in about \$300,000 annually. The council meeting will decide on new temperature thresholds ranging from 85 to 92 degrees.
