Shell to produce 21K barrels of oil equivalent per day in Mississippi Canyon

Shell Offshore, Inc. has announced a major investment into the Mississippi Canyon, located in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.

The oil-manufacturing company reported its final investment decision for Dover, a planned subsea tieback to the Shell-operated Appomattox production hub on the Mississippi Canyon.

Dover is expected to start production in late 2024 or early 2025 and produce up to 21,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day at peak rates.

“Shell is a pioneer in the Norphlet reservoir with Appomattox, and we are building on our leading position in the reservoir with Dover,” Paul Goodfellow, Shell's Executive Vice President for Deepwater said. “Last year we took FID on Rydberg, another subsea tieback to Appomattox, and Dover gives us an to add to our base in this prolific basin.”

Gov. Reeves signs bill regulating Jackson’s tax spending

Governor Tate Reeves has signed a bill into requiring the city of to monthly reports of how it spends its additional one percent tax dollars.

On Monday, Reeves signed House Bill 1168, authored by Representative Trey Lamar, R-Senatobia, originally authored to mandate for the city's one percent infrastructure sales tax to only be used on fixing issues with the capital city's and sewer system.

The legislation was later amended to require Jackson to supply detailed monthly reports including the names of vendors and how much they were paid courtesy of the one percent sales tax.

Mississippi's capital city will be subject to annual audits. Failure by the city to comply with audits and requirements within 30 days after receiving written notice of noncompliance will result in the Department of Revenue withholding payments to the municipality.

Back-to-back state champion coach leaves for Coast job

After a decade of in central Mississippi, high school football coach Jeff Stockstill is heading to the Gulf Coast.

On Friday, the School Board of Trustees hired Stockstill as the new head coach for the Pass High Pirates.

“We are excited about Coach Stockstill coming in to help build our program,” Athletic Director Ricky Smith said. “He's a proven winner and we are excited to watch him build a winning culture.  His expectations for his players on the field, in the classroom, and in the community are excellent and we are excited for him to be a Pirate.”

Winning back-to-back championships with the Scott Central Rebels, Stockstill has accumulated a 63-19 record as a head coach, including a 28-2 record over the last two years.
