How to deal with a denied insurance claim | NBC4 Washington
SUMMARY: If your insurance denies coverage for a test, treatment, or medication, don’t pay out of pocket immediately. You have the right to appeal. In 2023, nearly 20% of in-network claims and over a third of out-of-network claims were denied. First, call your insurer to check for billing errors, which are common and fixable. If not an error, request a clear explanation and file a formal appeal with your doctor’s support, including medical records. Appeals can take 30 days or more; request expedited review if urgent. If still denied, insurers must provide written reasons and appeal options. For Medicaid, seek legal help, and always question surprise medical bills carefully.

If your insurance company denies a test, treatment or medication, don’t rush to pay out of pocket. News4’s Susan Hogan explains how to appeal.

SUMMARY: Principal Greg Musik made a heartfelt surprise return to Mary Munford Elementary School’s fifth-grade graduation after being seriously injured earlier this year when hit by a car while biking. Absent for 11 weeks and recovering from multiple surgeries with help from Sheltering Arms, Musik surprised students, parents, and teachers, who warmly welcomed him back. He described the visit as motivational and said the school community means a lot to him. His goal was to attend graduation, which helped fuel his recovery. Musik hopes to return fully this fall and, despite joking about retirement, remains committed to Richmond and his role.

Pet owners urged to prepare disaster kits for hurricane season
SUMMARY: With hurricane season starting Sunday, pet owners are urged to prepare disaster kits for their furry friends. Many pets, like an eight-month-old puppy Linus, fear thunderstorms. Integrative veterinarian Dr. Gary Richter recommends desensitizing dogs by playing thunder sounds at low volume indoors. Importantly, owners must include pets in evacuation plans to prevent dangerous situations for animals and first responders. Disaster kits should contain weeks of food, bowls, medications, veterinary records, microchip info, and toys, stored in waterproof containers. Unlike sudden disasters, hurricanes offer warning, allowing time to safeguard both families and pets during severe weather.

Hurricane season demands careful planning for pet safety, including creating a go-bag or disaster kit.
