Meanwhile, the House also passed an immigration bill creating a Centralized Immigration Enforcement Division, which raised concerns among some senators about a proposed felony charge for officials supporting sanctuary cities.

SUMMARY: Seven years after the deadly Antioch Waffle House shooting that killed four people, including Akila DaSilva—the son of Tennessee State Rep. Shaundelle Brooks—the convicted shooter, Travis Rainey, is requesting a new trial. Rainey’s lawyers claim he was denied a fair chance to present evidence of mental illness and argue the jury was misled on the legal definition of insanity, alleging racial and emotional bias. Prosecutors counter that Rainey was sane, acted deliberately, and evaded police for over 30 hours. Brooks, who has advocated for gun reform since her son’s death, says Rainey does not deserve a second chance. A hearing is scheduled for tomorrow.
