Scattered storms still in play for the late week
SUMMARY: Wednesday saw hot, muggy conditions and scattered thunderstorms in Fayette County as students returned to school. A weakening frontal boundary to the northwest caused hit-or-miss storms with heavy downpours. Thursday will feature fewer storms but similar heat, with highs in the upper 80s to near 90 and humidity pushing feels-like temperatures into the mid-to-upper 90s. By Friday, high pressure will bring more sunshine, minimal storms, and a heat surge with highs in the low to mid-90s and heat indices near 100, raising heat stress concerns. This hot pattern will persist into early next week before a stronger cold front arrives.

Early learning sets kids on life trajectory, Kentuckians hear, as Beshear keeps pushing for pre-K
SUMMARY: During a Kentucky Pre-K for All Advisory Committee meeting, Alabama Republican Rep. Jeana Ross advocated for state-supported early childhood education, citing Alabama’s bipartisan pre-K program’s success. Ross emphasized early brain development’s impact on lifelong outcomes. Steven Barnett of Rutgers highlighted pre-K’s benefits, including better kindergarten readiness, health, and long-term societal advantages. Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, pushing universal pre-K, faces challenges funding the program in the Republican-controlled legislature before his term ends in 2027. Kentucky’s pre-K enrollment lags behind states like Alabama and Georgia, with many children not school-ready, underscoring the urgent need for quality early education to improve academic and economic outcomes statewide.

$1 billion data center possibility sparks debate in rural Kentucky community
SUMMARY: A $1 billion data center project in Mason County, Kentucky, proposed by a confidential Fortune 100 company, has sparked divided opinions among residents. The project promises 1,000 construction jobs, 400 full-time positions, and will fund all infrastructure costs without burdening the community. It aims to develop local STEM education and create high-paying careers, becoming the county’s largest taxpayer. However, some residents fear it will disrupt the rural tranquility and farmland, leading to petitions and legal efforts. County officials emphasize the economic benefits but note the project requires local approvals, with the company’s identity likely revealed only near groundbreaking.
