San Antonio Artist Vincent Valdez Takes Over CAMH
SUMMARY: Vincent Valdez’s career retrospective, *Just a Dream*, at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, showcases the artist’s powerful exploration of race, violence, and identity. His immense works, including pieces like *Dream* and *The Strangest Fruit*, depict subjects in liminal states, leaving the viewer to interpret whether they are rising or falling. The exhibition also includes a collaboration with Adriana Corral, honoring José Campos Torres, a victim of police brutality. Valdez’s art, with its use of light and subtle composition, transforms painful histories into messages of hope. *Just a Dream* runs through March 23, 2025.

Faith and food: How an east Austin woman is fighting food insecurity
SUMMARY: Jeannette Valdez Duran, once homeless in north Austin, was inspired by a store manager’s kindness to start helping others. She founded Mobile Blessings from the Heart, a nonprofit that distributes donated food to local families. Initially operating from her parents’ yard, her efforts now serve about 200 families every weekend with help from partners like Trader Joe’s and the Central Texas Food Bank. Duran’s goal is to expand, seeking a building and a truck to make her operation mobile, bringing food directly to senior communities and schools. Her work is driven by faith and community support.
