Sample ballot available for Liberty County ESPLOT referendum
SUMMARY: On March 18, Liberty County will hold a referendum on the Educational Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (ESPLOT). Voters will decide whether to continue a one percent sales tax aimed at funding educational projects, potentially raising up to $112 million over a period of 20 calendar quarters. The funds would support acquiring, constructing, and equipping new school facilities, renovating existing buildings, improving technology, and purchasing school equipment and vehicles. If approved, the tax will begin on February 1, 2026, following the expiration of the current ESPLOST, and will last until February 1, 2031.

Changes to Georgia landlord-tenant law | FOX 5 News
SUMMARY: Georgia’s 2025 landlord-tenant law changes include new minimum habitability standards explicitly requiring rental properties to be safe, habitable, and repaired promptly, though terms like “habitable” and “timely” remain undefined and will rely on court interpretation. Tenants can now take legal action if conditions are unlivable. Security deposits are capped at two months’ rent, down from an initially proposed three months, aiming to protect tenants but potentially limiting landlord-tenant negotiation flexibility. Eviction notices for nonpayment of rent now include a three-business-day grace period, giving tenants a last chance to resolve issues before eviction proceeds. The key advice remains: always read the lease carefully.
The rules for landlords and tenants have changed in Georgia for 2025. Real estate expert John Adams joined Good Day to explain what you need to know to protect your rights.

When will key aspects of Trump’s ‘big, beautiful bill’ take effect?
SUMMARY: President Trump signed a sweeping tax and spending bill dubbed the “big, beautiful bill” on July 4. The law makes his 2017 tax cuts permanent, increases defense and border wall funding, and offsets costs with cuts to Medicaid, food assistance (SNAP), student loans, and clean energy programs. Medicaid reforms, including work requirements, take effect by 2028, potentially cutting coverage for millions. SNAP work requirements and state funding changes also start around 2028. Tax benefits like SALT deductions and child tax credits begin immediately. The law eliminates key clean energy tax credits and revises higher education loan caps and repayment plans, effective mostly by 2026.
