SUMMARY: A multistate salmonella outbreak linked to cucumbers grown by Florida’s Bedner Growers and distributed by Fresh Start Produce has led to multiple recalls. Recently, Kroger stores in nine states—including Tennessee and Kentucky—voluntarily recalled 16 cucumber-containing salads and vegetable trays sold under the Supreme Produce label. These products were purchased between May 8 and 21, 2025. So far, 26 salmonella cases have been reported across 15 states, with nine hospitalizations. Symptoms include diarrhea, fever, and cramps. The FDA advises consumers to discard any recalled products, which are likely past their shelf life and no longer in stores.

SUMMARY: Byron Black, scheduled for execution in Tennessee on August 5, has a heart implant—a combined pacemaker and defibrillator—that could cause severe pain by delivering shocks if triggered during lethal injection. Experts warn that the drug pentobarbital used in the execution may induce dangerous heart rhythms activating the device, causing continuous shocks. Black’s attorneys argue the device should be disabled beforehand, but state officials and medical experts claim it’s unlikely to be triggered and that any shocks would be felt in a coma state, preventing pain perception. A court ruling on this issue is expected soon.
