Rural pharmacies under siege: DEA nabs organized crime roots
SUMMARY: Please provide the content you’d like me to summarize.
This summer, FOX 2 reported on a string of break-ins at mom-and-pop pharmacies in several locations throughout Missouri and Illinois. Now, we’re learning just how big of a crime business it is.
As the DEA states, 1,817,828 doses have been reported stolen from pharmacies in just the first six months of 2024.
“The purpose is greed,” DEA Assistant Special Agent in charge of the St. Louis field office, Joseph Dixon, said. “You have these criminal organizations that are working all throughout the United States.”
DEA is connecting the dots between burglaries that were committed by the same individuals in multiple states—like eight burglaries in four states from 2018-2020.
Two defendants have been captured and sent to prison for a network of crimes in the Missouri towns of Carthage, Hillsboro, St. James, and Ladue, along with Illinois towns Irvington and McLeansboro, as well as North Vernon, Indiana, and Reidsville, North Carolina.

Boeing workers on strike, cite 'unfair' contract
SUMMARY: Thousands of Boeing workers in St. Louis have gone on strike for the first time in nearly 30 years, rejecting a revised four-year contract despite offers of six-figure pay raises, $5,000 signing bonuses, and average salaries over $100,000. The union argues the contract fails to improve sick leave, vacation time, and working conditions, citing feelings of disrespect from management. Boeing, facing financial losses and talent attrition, expressed disappointment, highlighting a 40% average wage growth offer and alternative work schedules. No new negotiations are scheduled yet, and union members vow to remain on the picket line until demands are met.
On Monday, union members stood outside of Boeing’s headquarters in Berkeley, Missouri, with picket signs, expressing their frustration with management. Workers told FOX 2 that Boeing’s latest offer does not go far enough.
