SUMMARY: State Sen. Robin Webb of Kentucky, one of the last rural Democrats in the state legislature, announced she is switching to the Republican Party, further strengthening GOP supermajorities. Webb cited growing disconnect with the Democratic Party’s leftward shift as the reason for her change. Kentucky Democrats now have minimal rural legislative presence, complicating their efforts to rebuild support outside urban areas. The GOP has dominated rural districts since 2016, aided by Donald Trump’s influence. Kentucky Democrats are pursuing grassroots efforts to regain rural voters, while Republicans view Webb’s switch as part of a broader trend reflecting Kentucky’s conservative shift.

SUMMARY: An EF2 tornado devastated the Amish Whitmer family’s home in Washington County, where 11 people were present. Despite the destruction of their livelihood—scattered debris, mud, and twisted metal—no deaths occurred at the family’s residence, which is considered a miracle. Five family members, including a 3-year-old girl briefly missing after the tornado, were hospitalized. The local church mobilized nearly 50 families to assist with cleanup and emotional support. The National Weather Service explained the tornado’s force was worsened by large overhead doors facing the storm, allowing winds inside to tear the home apart. Overall, 14 people were injured, and the community is grateful no more lives were lost.
