RFK Jr. has been tapped by Trump as his pick for health secretary | FOX 7 Austin
SUMMARY: President-elect Trump continues to build his administration with notable cabinet appointments. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has joined, pledging to “make America healthy again,” focusing on eliminating unhealthy foods and addressing pharmaceutical corruption. Despite his controversial vaccine skepticism and fringe ideas like removing fluoride from water, Kennedy is expected to bring disruption to Health and Human Services. Additionally, Trump has picked former Congressman Doug Collins for Secretary of Veterans Affairs and Todd Blanch as Deputy Attorney General. Dean John Sour has been named Solicitor General. All appointments await Senate approval in January, as reported by Connor Hansen from Fox News.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. ran as an independent in this year’s presidential race, abandoned his bid after striking a deal to give Donald Trump his endorsement with a promise to have a role in health policy in the administration.

In the tropics: Tropical Depression 2 forms in southern Gulf, expected to move into Mexico
SUMMARY: Tropical Depression 2 has formed in the southern Gulf of Mexico, now officially the second Atlantic depression of the 2025 season. Hurricane hunters detected a small, organized circulation with sustained winds of 30 mph, moving west-northwest at 7 mph, expected to strengthen into Tropical Storm Barry. The system will likely make landfall near Tampico, Mexico, Sunday night or early Monday morning, bringing heavy rain and flash flooding risks, especially in mountainous areas. Meanwhile, moisture from the system will increase rain chances and street flooding in Southeast Texas on Sunday, with a weather impact alert in effect from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. KHOU 11 will provide ongoing tropical updates.
Chief meteorologist David Paul is tracking the system, which should sling rain our way Sunday and Monday.

Beto O’Rourke talks Democratic strategy ahead of 2026 midterms
SUMMARY: Former U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke remains active in Texas politics despite past electoral losses. He’s been holding statewide town halls and meeting with key Texas Democrats like Joaquin Castro, James Talarico, and Colin Allred to strategize 2026 midterm candidacies. Few Democrats have declared for statewide offices, but O’Rourke’s focus includes Medicaid expansion, minimum wage increase, abortion rights, and THC legalization. He hinted at a possible run but emphasized serving the country first. O’Rourke stressed the importance of winning the U.S. Senate seat to counter federal opposition and said Texas Democrats must connect with voters to overcome the state’s Republican tilt.
