Residents provide feedback in Kearney Street Corridor redevelopment meeting
SUMMARY: The City of Springfield held a public meeting on June 24 at Doling Park Northview Center to revisit the 2017 Kearney Street Corridor redevelopment plan, aiming to encourage development that aligns with community needs and the Forward SGF comprehensive plan. Attendees expressed concerns regarding homelessness, lack of business diversity, and problematic businesses deterring visitors. Residents like Mona Pieron stressed addressing social issues before attracting developers, while John Cox advocated for better connections to community centers. Senior Planner Matt Schaefer presented the plan, with a draft expected by July or August and finalization planned for September. The meeting reflected ongoing community engagement efforts.
