Rain and storm chances pick up to end the week
SUMMARY: Central and Eastern Kentucky enjoyed several warm, dry days this week, with Thursday reaching the low to mid-80s. However, a stalled front west of the region will spark isolated storms and influence weather through the weekend. A complex of thunderstorms is expected Friday, potentially strengthening and causing severe storms with damaging winds and localized flooding; Central and Eastern Kentucky is under a Level 2 severe risk. Saturday will see lingering scattered storms, mainly in southern Kentucky, also under a Level 2 risk. Sunday offers the best chance for drier weather with partly cloudy skies. Early next week remains unsettled before drying up midweek with warmer temperatures.

Big time heat headed our way…
SUMMARY: A heatwave is coming with mid to upper 90s temperatures Thursday and Friday, and heat indices reaching around 106. The region will stay mostly dry through Friday evening under high pressure, with no storms currently in the area. Overnight temperatures will drop into the upper 60s and low 70s. Humidity will rise again Thursday and Friday, leading to increased chances of scattered thunderstorms this weekend, though it won’t be a washout. Air quality alerts are in effect midday tomorrow due to high ground-level ozone. Overall, expect typical July heat with mainly sunny skies and muggy conditions.
Chief meteorologist Jay Cardosi talks about when the heat index could climb to over 105 degrees across our area…
